Netanyahu flares up against Erdogan after Turkey’s demand for his arrest

Following the announcement by Turkish authorities regarding a request for an international red notice for his arrest, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a strong reaction. The notice is connected to procedures related to the war in Gaza and an incident involving Global Sumud Flotilla activists. In his statement, Netanyahu sharply criticized Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Netanyahu labeled Erdogan an “antisemit dictator” and accused the Turkish leader of several actions. Specifically, he alleged that Erdogan engages in the repression of political opponents and journalists. Furthermore, Netanyahu accused the Turkish government of supporting Hamas.

“Erdogan is an antisemitic dictator who massacred the Kurds, sheltered Hamas terrorists, occupied half of Cyprus, and imprisoned a record number of journalists and political opponents,” Netanyahu stated. He further accused Ankara of attempting to undermine international norms. The remarks represent a significant escalation in diplomatic tensions between Israel and Turkey.

Netanyahu’s characterization of the Turkish president and government has drawn international attention to the ongoing friction between the two nations. The issuance of the red notice by Turkish authorities has prompted this immediate and highly critical response from Netanyahu regarding the situation.
