A city in Texas called Bug Tussle has lost over 70 street signs due to theft.

The small Texas town of Bug Tussle is currently without new street signs, a consequence of persistent theft. Department of Transportation officials have ceased providing replacements due to the extensive losses. Local authorities report that more than seventy Bug Tussle signs have been stolen over several years.

Thieves appear to have targeted the town specifically because of its unique name. With a population of just fifteen residents, Bug Tussle is understandably frustrated by this ongoing issue. According to Telegrafi, the town is not receiving replacement signs as a result of these crimes.

Residents are proud of their distinctive name, which stems from the town’s origins as Truss in the late 1890s. “People always ask me when I’m on a plane: ‘Are you from Dallas? No, I’m from Bug Tussle.’ They say, ‘What,’” explained Deborah Stout to KLTV.

The Texas Historical Commission has documented the origin of the town’s name. The repeated theft of the signs highlights the unusual situation of this small town and the value placed on its identity.
