The archaeological mapping of the Shkodra region continues to reveal remarkable discoveries. A recent decision by the National Council for Material Cultural Heritage has elevated the “A” zone of Bushati, within the Vau i Dejës municipality, to the status of immovable cultural property. Concurrently, comprehensive zoning and regulations for the preservation and management of this important site have been formally approved.
The archaeological excavations at Bushati, initiated several years prior by an Albanian-Polish mission, are steadily uncovering fresh evidence and data concerning the ancient city. This significant site is located within the Shkodra area. According to the Director of the Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage, “the results of the excavations to date have revealed the traces of a Illyrian city dating before our era.”
Researchers have already identified two entrance gates within the Bushati archaeological zone.
These findings strongly suggest the extent and importance of the ancient settlement. The ongoing work promises to further illuminate the history of the region and the people who inhabited it. The preservation efforts are crucial for safeguarding this valuable archaeological site.
