Aliu: The essential list includes de-smoking bars

On World No Tobacco Day, the Ministry of Health, in partnership with the Institute of Public Health (ISHP) and the World Health Organization (WHO), is participating in the global campaign centered on the theme, “Discovering the withdrawal, combating nicotine and tobacco dependence.”

During the observance, the Minister of Health, Azir Aliu, announced comprehensive measures being implemented across the country. He emphasized that coordinated activities have been launched to bolster smoking cessation services at the most fundamental levels. These efforts involve a multi-sectoral approach, uniting the Ministry of Health with the WHO guidelines, the Institute of Public Health, and various local governmental bodies.

Specifically, public health centers, local self-governments, and local health homes are actively engaged in providing support to curb tobacco use. Furthermore, the Ministry has undertaken a significant policy update concerning national health provisions. To enhance treatment options, the Ministry of Health has revised the essential medicines list to incorporate medications specifically designed to manage nicotine withdrawal symptoms.

These coordinated actions underscore a commitment to improving public health outcomes through accessible care. By integrating global best practices from the WHO with robust local service delivery, the initiatives aim to provide comprehensive support to individuals struggling with tobacco dependency. The focus remains on strengthening the entire continuum of care, ensuring that support reaches every community level through these localized health interventions.
