Doctors and teachers are now also required to declare their assets, with prison sentences up to 5 years for failure to do so.

Kosovo’s public sector is undergoing a significant change, with officials now mandated to reveal details about their assets. Thousands of government employees are obligated to declare their wealth by 2025, fulfilling a new legal requirement. The asset declaration process commenced on March 1st, marking the beginning of this crucial step.

To date, more than 1,000 officials have already complied with this legal obligation, representing roughly 10% of the total number. This work is being overseen by the Anti-Corruption Prevention Agency, which has clearly defined the categories of individuals needing to participate. The Agency has specified that these officials encompass a broad range, extending from the highest levels, including the nation’s president, to those involved in roles like certification, licensing, and tender procedures.

Specifically, this includes officials from the ATK (health insurance) sector, customs officers, and police officers engaged in investigative tasks. The purpose of this initiative is to ensure transparency and accountability among public officials, with their assets being subject to scrutiny. This process is a legally required step for all involved.
