Extraordinary elections or a new procedure for the president: What is expected from the Constitution regarding Osman’s decree?

The Constitutional Court’s decision concerning President Vjosa Osmani’s decree dissolving parliament is nearing completion. Key parliamentary figures have voiced their anticipated outcome regarding the final ruling. During a broadcast on Debat Plus, Vigan Qorrolli, a representative of the LDK, indicated his party’s belief that the decree will be deemed invalid and unconstitutional.

He asserted this would subsequently pave the way for a revised process in electing the president. Qorrolli explained, “VV’s expectation is that the decree initially be declared null and unconstitutional. And secondly, the petition for the judgment should permit the parliament to conduct a new election for the president.”

Conversely, Përmban Gruda, an MP from PDK, highlighted the current parliament’s diminished legitimacy.

He argued that the nation requires a renewed approach. The situation centers around the president’s decree regarding the dissolution of the legislative body, and the court’s judgment will determine the next steps.
