Geneva has implemented a new regulation concerning face veils in public swimming facilities. The Large Council of Geneva has formally enacted a law restricting the use of concealing attire while swimming in public pools. This includes garments such as wet burkas, frequently worn by Muslim women.
The recently approved legislation dictates that only swimwear meeting specific criteria will be allowed in these public pools. Specifically, garments must not extend beyond the knee and must expose the arms. Albinfo.ch reports that this decision was made on Thursday evening.
The majority right-wing faction within the Large Council supported the measure. While the law doesn’t explicitly address these particular coverings, it effectively prohibits their use. This outcome aligns with the initial draft proposed by the Populist Party.
The intention behind this regulation is to ensure safety and comfort within the public pools.
