Janevska: The number of students has decreased, but all teachers have their jobs.

The Ministry of Education and Science announced several policy measures aimed at ensuring the continued employment of teachers despite a noticeable reduction in student enrollment across the region. Minister Vesna Janevska addressed questions from parliamentary deputies today regarding the staffing situation within the Dibra municipality. Janevska confirmed that the government is actively implementing strategies to maintain job security for educators, even as the overall number of students has decreased significantly.

She highlighted the severity of the trend, noting that last year, student registration at 147 regional schools was zero. To mitigate the impact of low enrollment figures, the Ministry plans to introduce teaching models incorporating rotations and extended stays at school premises. These measures are designed to provide teachers with sufficient supplementary activities, ensuring they maintain their full teaching hours and receive full compensation.

The Minister specified that this initiative is being supported by key international partners, namely UNICEF and the World Bank. These collaborations are crucial components of the strategy to stabilize the teaching workforce. The stated goal is to ensure that the quality of education remains consistent and that the necessary personnel—the teachers—are retained within the educational system despite fluctuations in the number of enrolled students.
