Most NATO countries rejected the decision, prompting a sharp reaction from Trump.

President Donald Trump once again raised the prospect of involving NATO allies in the liberation of the Strait of Hormuz. He subsequently announced that the vast majority of nations had declined his requests for participation. A statement released on Truth Social detailed his reaction to this outcome.

Trump expressed his lack of astonishment regarding the behavior of these NATO member states. He asserted that “most of our NATO ‘allies’ have informed the United States that they do not want to be involved in our military operation against the terrorist regime in the Middle East.” Notably, he pointed out that nearly every country aligns with the U.S. position concerning Iran’s nuclear ambitions, which are universally condemned.

The President emphasized that Iran is not permitted to possess nuclear weapons. Consequently, he stated, “Therefore, I am not surprised by their actions, because I have always thought that NATO, where we spend hundreds of billions of dollars per year to protect these same states,” demonstrated a lack of willingness to contribute.
