Over 50% of the workforce population outside of employment, Shahini: Concerning statistics.

Agim Shahini, the leader of the Kosovo Business Alliance, has addressed the recent data released by Kosovo’s Statistics Agency. The agency’s report revealed that over 51% of the working-age population in Kosovo remains unemployed. Shahini expressed serious concern regarding this statistic, viewing it as a definitive sign of the shortcomings within past economic and social strategies.

He emphasized the critical situation facing the nation. “The current unemployment rate of 13.9% combined with the presence of over 500,000 inactive individuals represents a significant loss for Kosovo,” Shahini stated. He argued that this situation is actively diminishing the country’s greatest asset – its human capital.

Instead of fostering a thriving and competitive economy, the current trajectory is leading to a model reliant on foreign remittances and consumer spending. Shahini highlighted the urgent need for a shift in approach. He believes that Kosovo is failing to realize its full potential due to these persistent issues.

The situation demands immediate attention and a reassessment of policies to ensure a more sustainable and prosperous future for the country.
