Vučić explained that the nation is essentially ceding almost all revenue generated from the excise tax to lessen the burden on the state budget. This action is being taken despite the existence of considerable financial reserves. Following discussions with the National Security Council, it was highlighted that Serbia currently collects approximately 2 billion euros annually through fuel excise taxes.

This revenue stream represents the country’s largest income source related to this specific levy. The government’s strategy focuses on minimizing the impact of fluctuating global fuel costs on consumers and businesses within Serbia. Last week, Serbia had already enacted a prior decrease in the excise rate, demonstrating a proactive approach to managing fuel prices.
