The situation in the Persian Gulf is evolving, with several small islands potentially gaining increased importance due to a possible escalation of U.S. pressure against the Iranian regime, including the potential deployment of ground forces. Three Marine contingents have been sent to the region as a precautionary measure.

However, U.S. President Donald Trump has not indicated any intention to pursue an invasion of Iranian territory. During a press conference on Thursday, Trump stated, “I wouldn’t put troops anywhere,” adding cryptically, “If I were to do that, of course I wouldn’t tell you.”

These islands hold strategic positions near vital shipping lanes, and notably, Chohr Island is particularly significant economically.

The U.S. military has already launched intensive attacks targeting Iranian military outposts on Chohr, a location through which over 90% of Iran’s oil exports pass. Despite the heightened alert, Trump’s remarks suggest a reluctance to directly engage with the Iranian regime.

The deployment of Marine forces remains a tactical response, not a declaration of war, and the future course of action remains uncertain. The Iranian government continues to be a focal point of concern for the United States.
