Starting today, motorcycles up to 125cc will be driven with category “B” license in Macedonia

Effective immediately in North Macedonia, changes to the Law on Road Traffic Safety permit holders of a “B” category driver’s license to operate certain motorcycles. Under the updated regulations, individuals possessing a standard “B” license are now authorized to drive automatic transmission motorcycles classified under the “A1” category. These specific motorcycles must have an engine volume not exceeding 125cc and an engine power limited to 11 KW.

These legislative amendments represent a significant update to driving regulations within the country. The proposed changes were advanced by the parliamentary group representing the ZNAM Movement, receiving backing from the majority of deputies. The legislation was formally approved by the Assembly on April 8 of this year, establishing the new parameters for vehicle operation.

Following the passage of the law, administrative procedures are currently underway by the Ministry of Interior. These processes are focused on finalizing and publishing the necessary regulations to implement the new rules across the board. The modification effectively broadens the scope of vehicle operation permitted by the “B” category license, streamlining access to lower-powered motorcycles while maintaining specific technical restrictions based on engine size and power output.

These adjustments are designed to update the framework governing various vehicle category requirements for the public.
