Bayer Leverkusen’s head of recruitment, Simon Rolfes, has firmly denied any intention to welcome Julian Brandt back to the club. This decision comes as Brandt is set to become a player without a contract soon following his time at Borussia Dortmund. CEO Fernando Carro initially expressed a desire to see Brandt’s return to Bundesliga football after the conclusion of the current campaign.
He believed Brandt’s arrival would be contingent upon Rolfes’ approval. Rolfes, however, made it clear that Brandt’s role is already adequately filled. He highlighted the exceptional potential of Ibrahim Maza, currently playing in that position, stating he’s expected to flourish significantly over the next few years.
The Leverkusen official emphasized that Maza’s development is a priority. Consequently, the club has no need to pursue a return for Brandt. This rejection solidifies Leverkusen’s focus on nurturing their existing talent pool.
