In the recent 67th installment of the “Health First” podcast, presented with support from United Hospital, gastroenterologist Valon Hamza addressed a critical and growing health concern: colorectal cancer. He underscored the vital role of early detection and heightened public awareness regarding this serious illness. Hamza explained that colorectal cancer is among the most common worldwide, consistently ranking as a leading cause of mortality globally.
“Unfortunately, this cancer is common,” he stated, “It’s the third most common cancer globally… and it has a very high mortality rate.”
The specialist specifically noted the challenging circumstances within Kosovo. A new case of this cancer is diagnosed almost daily, representing a significant burden on the healthcare system. A key obstacle, according to Hamza, is the insidious nature of the disease’s development.
Colorectal cancer often progresses silently, making early diagnosis difficult. Increased awareness and proactive screening are therefore essential to combatting this most common cancer. The situation demands immediate attention and continued efforts to improve outcomes.
