The “Besa Trans” case concluded with a retrial. The Skopje Criminal Court determined the owner of the company, Bekim Haxhiu, was guilty of falsifying the license certificate. Consequently, he received a sentence of 20 months imprisonment.
Simultaneously, the company is required to pay a fine of 800,000 denars. This legal matter does not concern the tragic accident that occurred in Bulgaria in November 2021. Instead, it focuses on the fraudulent alteration of the license certificate for the bus involved in that incident, where 45 individuals perished and seven others sustained injuries.
As in the initial trial, the involved parties maintained their original stances throughout the proceedings. The prosecution firmly advocated for the imposition of penalties against both Bekim Haxhiu and the company “Besa Trans.” They asserted that the accident-damaged bus illegally crossed the border while possessing a falsified license. The court once again confirmed Haxhiu’s culpability, stating that he committed a criminal act.
The situation highlights the importance of accurate documentation within the transportation sector and underscores the consequences of such violations. This outcome represents a significant decision by the court.
