Healthcare corruption has become a widespread and accepted issue. A recent study highlights how this problem is often unseen and rarely addressed by patients. The research focused on citizens’ experiences, viewpoints, and feelings about corrupt practices within the healthcare system.
The study’s primary findings reveal a concerning trend: a significant lack of awareness regarding corruption. Almost 90% of those surveyed indicated they hadn’t been asked for or offered bribes during healthcare services over the past twelve months. This information was provided by the “Emancipation, Solidarity, and Equality of Women” Association – ESE.
Notably, healthcare consistently demonstrates the largest gap between perceived and reported corruption. Citizen reluctance to report corrupt actions is frequently attributed to fear of adverse repercussions. This underreporting is a key element of the situation.
Essentially, the study underscores the deeply ingrained nature of this issue. The lack of reporting suggests a systemic problem where individuals are hesitant to speak out due to potential negative outcomes. Addressing this requires a multifaceted approach to combatting corruption within the healthcare sector.
