Health Minister Arben Vitia announced that the University Clinical and Hospital Center of Kosovo (UQHKC) has made all medications currently in its inventory accessible to the public. This action follows concerning reports of significant shortages of vital drugs within the QKUK clinics, especially impacting cancer patients. Speaking to Ekonomia Online, Minister Vitia explained that persistent, frequently unverified reports of drug shortages had been received.
“Throughout this period, we’ve consistently encountered these unconfirmed reports of shortages,” he stated. Consequently, through the UQHKC board, he initiated a process to release all medications from the central pharmacy stock. This initiative, which has been progressing for several months, aims to address the ongoing concerns.
The university’s response reflects a commitment to ensuring access to necessary treatments for patients across Kosovo. The minister emphasized the importance of proactive measures in response to these reports. The goal is to alleviate the difficulties experienced by citizens and prevent future medication scarcity within the healthcare system.
