The disappointing outcome of the LSM protest, orchestrated and backed by SDSM, unequivocally showed that LSM lacked widespread backing from authentic workers. According to OBRM-PDUKM, the public’s understanding of LSM was flawed; rather than a union championing laborers, it had evolved into an instrument of SDSM’s political agendas. Over the preceding 1.5 years, LSM had been unable to secure any collective bargaining agreements with the Government, yielding no tangible benefits for workers.
Consequently, it’s clear that the sole “agreement” operating within LSM is the one forged with SDSM. The unsuccessful demonstration simply reinforced this established fact: genuine workers were notably absent. Instead, structures mobilized by SDSM were present, effectively diminishing the significance of the event.
This failure highlights a critical disconnect. LSM, intended to represent the interests of workers, had become intertwined with SDSM’s political aims. The lack of concrete results for the workforce underscores the need for a genuine union focused on the needs of its members, instead of serving as an extension of a political party.
