The President’s election is a matter for Kosovo – the EU does not intervene.

The European Union Ambassador to Kosovo, Aivo Orav, clarified that the ongoing presidential election process remains solely an internal matter, outside the scope of EU involvement. He asserted, “The election of your president – or president – is your decision… and that of your parliamentarians, who, under the Constitution, are obligated to vote and suggest candidates.”

Orav addressed a group of journalists in Pristina, emphasizing that measures previously taken against Kosovo are now considered a concluded chapter. He indicated the EU’s willingness to pursue new initiatives.

The ambassador stressed that the absence of a political consensus cannot be influenced by external forces. “If no one proposes a candidate,” Orav stated, as reported by Telergafi, “I don’t understand the situation, nor do I grasp the expectations regarding our role in this election.” He unequivocally declared that the European Union has no authority to dictate the process or select the individuals involved in this presidential election. The focus, he explained, rests entirely with the people of Kosovo.
