The Association of Kosovar Journalists (AGK) expresses grave concern following the revelation that the private contact information – specifically the phone number – of journalist Ardiana Thaçi-Mehmeti from Kiks Kosova has been illicitly shared within a large Discord group comprising 70,000 individuals. On Friday evening, Thaçi-Mehmeti received numerous messages from group members, many containing explicit sexual content. This incident follows shortly after the journalist reported extensively on a comparable group operating on Telegram, identified as AlbKings.
Within this Telegram group, personal data and contact details of women were routinely disseminated with the intention of causing defamation and harm. AGK firmly condemns this disturbing instance of online harassment directed at the journalist. The Association views this as a new, retaliatory campaign stemming from Thaçi-Mehmeti’s reporting and her previous work.
The AGK considers this a serious threat to the safety and security of journalists in Kosovo. The situation highlights the ongoing vulnerability of journalists to online abuse and the need for stronger protections.
