Tourism’s impact has provided Albania with 1.9 billion euros in food revenue this year.

Albania anticipates needing 1.9 billion euros’ worth of food this year. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development arrived at this projection, anticipating a substantial influx of 14 million tourists. This represents a 300 million euros increase compared to the previous year’s figures.

In 2023, approximately 12.5 million foreign visitors explored the country, as reported by A2CNN. Tourists frequently purchase Albanian products, raising a key question: can the nation’s agriculture adequately meet the demands of international visitors? “The potential is there, but the chances are limited,” explained Theodhor Kristuli, the chairman of the Agricultural Union.

“What does this signify? We lack competitiveness. Agriculture globally receives some level of support, though often more than in Albania.”

Experts within the sector view tourism as a promising avenue for agricultural growth.

However, current trends within Albanian agriculture present a particular challenge, demanding further investigation and strategic development to fully capitalize on this opportunity. The projected need for 1.9 billion euros highlights the scale of the undertaking for the coming year.
