Union representatives are advocating for lessened penalties or fines concerning offenses and unpaid debts when citizens were unintentionally missed or not properly informed. Marjan Risteski from LSM reports that specific situations have arisen where debts, ranging from 25 to 500 denar, have triggered fines reaching 15,000 denar. He further notes that there are currently over a million such cases, alongside more than 150,000 accounts blocked belonging to citizens.
The union intends to pursue debt forgiveness, examining which debts are ultimately cleared. They will formally request a streamlined “one-stop” system, preventing citizens from losing their homes or property due to outstanding debts. Crucially, the representatives demand that any existing debts related to monthly utility costs are immediately handled by a bailiff.
This is preferable to the prevalent use of lawyers or notaries, a common practice across the country. The focus is on addressing these debts effectively, ensuring fairness and preventing further hardship for individuals burdened by these financial obligations.
