The government’s planned fuel subsidy is now considered irrelevant and will not shield citizens from declining living standards, according to Deputy Speaker Jovana Trenčevska of the LSDM. Speaking on “Top Theme,” she stressed the significant impact of today’s rising oil prices on the industry. This increase in fuel will undoubtedly exacerbate existing problems, leading to further rises in the price of essential food items.
Trenčevska pointed out that during this period, basic food products have been steadily increasing in market prices. Specifically, the cost of olive oil, meat, eggs, fruits, and vegetables has seen a threefold rise. Previously, there had been reports of a potential reduction in fuel prices.
However, following the Energy Regulatory Commission’s decision and the decrease in Value Added Tax (VAT) from 18% to 10%, the price has actually increased by three and a half denars. The situation underscores the vulnerability of consumers to fluctuating fuel prices and their subsequent effect on the overall cost of living.
