14 confirmed cases of measles within a month, Ferizaj leads with cases

Measles Cases Rise in Kosovo Following Recent Reporting

The Kosovo Institute of Public Health (IKSHPK) has announced the confirmation of 14 cases of measles within Kosovo between April 16th and May 12th, 2026. The data indicates a localized spread of the illness. Ferizaj recorded the highest number of cases, with five confirmed instances.

Pristina and Kaçani followed with three cases each. Additionally, single cases were reported in Lipjan, Fushe Kosove, and Gjilan. IKSHPK officials stated that all 14 confirmed cases involved individuals who had not been vaccinated against measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR).

The Institute highlighted that all affected individuals received hospital treatment. “All confirmed cases are unvaccinated with the MMR vaccine and have received hospital treatment, which demonstrates the potential seriousness of possible complications that measles can cause,” the IKSHPK statement read. The Institute has issued an urgent appeal to ensure high vaccination rates within the population to prevent further spread of these cases.

Further investigation into the outbreak is ongoing.
