Majority of Germans Perceive Unequal Wealth Distribution
Berlin, Germany – An extensive survey reveals that a significant majority of Germans believe the distribution of wealth within the country is fundamentally unfair. According to a recent ARD survey conducted in April, 81% of German-speaking respondents consider the current situation to be inequitable. The findings, part of the “Your Opinion Matters!” campaign, highlighted a stark contrast: only 15% of those surveyed felt the distribution of wealth was fair.
The survey, which polled 2,084 individuals, coincided with the ongoing efforts of the CDU, CSU, and SPD coalition government, established in May 2025. Despite the coalition’s initiatives, public sentiment remains focused on addressing the perceived imbalance. Support for measures such as a wealth tax and increased inheritance taxes continues to be prevalent among Germans.
One year after the formation of the government, a substantial number of Germans – 81% – believe significant progress is still needed to realize the ambition of a “Just and Well-Off Germany.” The survey underscores the ongoing concern regarding wealth disparities within the nation.
