On August 8, 2008, discussions took place regarding the status of the U.S. Mission in Bashkuara, Pristina, and the U.S. Mission in Pristina itself.
The meetings involved representatives from the U.S. Embassy in Pristina and the U.S. Ambassador to Kosovo.
The purpose of the discussions centered on formally recognizing Kosovo as an independent state and establishing corresponding diplomatic relations. It was determined that this new status should be reflected in the presence of the U.S. diplomatic mission.
Separate discussions occurred on August 17, 2008, concerning the diplomatic status of Kosovo, and on August 18, 2008, regarding the U.S. Mission’s standing in Pristina. At the time, the U.S.
Embassy was viewed as a significant and historic development in the region.
