Kosovo Judoka Akil Gjakova Misses Bronze at European Championship
Tbilisi, Georgia – Akil Gjakova was eliminated in the repechage round for the bronze medal competition at the European Championship, which concluded today in Tbilisi. Forty judokas from 46 nations competed in the event, showcasing a high level of competition within the under 73 kilogram category. Gjakova’s bid for a podium placement ended with a defeat against Turkish judoka, Bilal Ciloglu.
Ciloglu secured a 10-point advantage through a throw, ultimately denying Gjakova a place amongst the bronze medalists. As a result, Gjakova finished fifth in the European Senior Championship. The competition also saw other Kosovo representatives eliminated earlier today.
Laura Fazliu and Dardan Cena were unable to advance beyond the initial stages. Yesterday, however, Distria Krasniqi successfully progressed to a later round. The outcome represents a setback for Kosovo’s judokas, though the European Championship provided a valuable opportunity for athletes like akil gjakova to compete on the international stage.
