Kosovo Temporarily Suspends Carp Fishing Moratorium
Prishtina, Kosovo – The Fishermen’s Federation of Kosovo has announced a temporary suspension of all carp fishing activities across the nation’s lakes and rivers. The decision, effective April 15th, 2026, will remain in place until May 31st. Under the moratorium, fishing will be restricted to “Catch & Release” methods only.
The use of nets or other equipment intended for the storage or holding of fish is strictly prohibited during this period. The Federation emphasized the obligation of all affiliated sports and recreational fishing associations to fully implement these revised regulations. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary and administrative actions as outlined in existing Kosovan fishing laws.
The rationale behind the temporary suspension remains focused on supporting the recovery of carp populations within Kosovo’s aquatic ecosystems. Authorities anticipate that this period will allow for a measured approach to fishing, contributing to sustainable management of the species. This action reflects ongoing efforts to balance recreational fishing opportunities with the conservation of fish stocks in Kosovo.

This seems like a strange move, and I’m curious to know the reasoning behind it.
