We would not arrest Netanyahu, says the incoming prime minister of Hungary.

Incoming Hungarian Prime Minister Reverses Withdrawal from International Criminal Court

Budapest, Hungary – The incoming Prime Minister of Hungary, Peter Magyar, has announced a reversal of his predecessor’s decision to withdraw the country from the International Criminal Court (ICC). The move comes as Magyar prepares to assume office following a historic election victory that ends 16 years of Viktor Orban’s leadership. Speaking at a press conference in Budapest, Magyar stated his intention to maintain Hungary’s membership in the ICC, simultaneously issuing a warning to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Hungary will now be able to facilitate the arrest of Mr. Netanyahu, who is currently sought by the ICC in connection with suspected war crimes related to the conflict in Gaza since 2024. “I have made this clear,” Magyar stated, according to reports from Telegrafi.

Previously, Orban’s government had announced its intention to withdraw from the ICC last year, citing disagreements with the court’s jurisdiction. Membership in the ICC allows for the potential arrest of individuals sought by the court if they enter Hungarian territory. The decision reflects a significant shift in Hungary’s legal stance and highlights the ongoing international scrutiny surrounding the ICC’s investigations.
