Agreement Reached on Higher Education Law After Extensive Discussions
Skopje – The final meeting concluded today between the Ministry of Education and Science (MASH) and coalition partner VLEN regarding the proposed higher education law. Minister Vesna Janevska announced the successful closure of discussions, with the finalized text now moving forward to government procedure. During the meeting, six key points within the proposed legislation were thoroughly discussed.
According to Minister Janevska, five of these points had previously been addressed and resolved without significant disagreement. The remaining point centered around the use of the Hirsch Index. The Hirsch Index, also known as h-index, is a metric utilized to assess the productivity and impact of researchers’ scientific publications.
It measures the number of citations a researcher’s work receives, providing an indication of their influence within their field. This index is currently incorporated as a criterion for the election and advancement of academic titles within the proposed law. “We had six points that we discussed and agreed on all six,” stated Minister Janevska.
“Tomorrow the law will enter government procedure.” The finalized law represents a significant step forward in reforming the education system following extensive negotiations.
