Energy Regulator Announces Compensation for Electricity Meter Inaccuracies in Kosovo

PRISTINA, Kosovo – The Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) has announced a compensation program for consumers affected by potential inaccuracies in electricity tariffs stemming from issues with meters across Kosovo. The announcement follows a period of scrutiny regarding billing discrepancies and concerns raised by residents. The ERO stated that all consumers who have experienced demonstrable harm due to these inaccuracies will be compensated.

This includes individuals whose meters have been officially verified to contain errors, as well as those who suspect they may have been negatively impacted. “Who will be compensated?” the regulator stated to Radio Free Europe. “Anyone whose meter has been verified to have inaccuracies will receive appropriate redress.”

Consumers are initially directed to file complaints with the Ministry of Industry, Enterprise, Trade and Innovation [MINT] to initiate the process.

The regulator emphasized that if a complaint is substantiated, consumers will be compensated for any resulting financial losses. The ERO’s action aims to address consumer concerns and ensure transparency within the electricity distribution system following reported issues with meter functionality. Further details regarding the compensation process will be released in the coming days.
