VLEN Coalition Criticizes BDI’s Opposition to Government Dismissal
The VLEN Coalition issued a statement today responding to the Bulgarian Democratic Alliance’s (BDI) opposition to the government’s removal. The coalition characterized the BDI’s stance as “pure hypocrisy” and an attempt to misrepresent the political situation. The technical government, established following a period of intense political crisis, was not intended as a standard democratic structure.
It emerged as an emergency solution necessitated by a deeply fractured coalition and significant scandals involving the BDI’s partnership with the Nikola Gruevski regime. According to the VLEN Coalition, the government’s creation was driven by the urgent need to ensure free and fair elections amidst widespread corruption, abuse of power, and a severe erosion of public trust. It functioned as a temporary measure designed to restore a baseline level of democratic processes.
“Let us remember why this government was created: to guarantee free and fair elections at a moment when the state was gripped by massive corruption, abuse of power, and a deep crisis of trust,” the coalition stated. “Therefore, it was a temporary mechanism to return the minimum of democracy.”
The VLEN Coalition’s response highlights the contentious circumstances surrounding the government’s formation and its limited mandate.
