Successful operation of a newborn baby with a rare and severe congenital heart defect

Newborn Successfully Treated Following Complex Heart Operation

Zhan Mitrev Clinic, 24/04/2026 – A newborn infant suffering from a rare and serious congenital heart defect was successfully treated following an urgent operation at the Zhan Mitrev Clinic. The operation, completed on April 24th, involved a child born just days prior who presented with transposition of the great arteries, a complex cardiac anomaly. The infant, transported from Kosovo, required immediate medical attention due to the severity of the condition.

Utilizing the clinic’s specialized neonatal transport team and an incubator with mechanical ventilation, the child was stabilized for the procedure. Transposition of the great arteries results in the aorta and pulmonary artery being incorrectly positioned during fetal development, leading to a critical disruption of blood circulation. This anomaly causes a mixture of arterial and venous blood, severely limiting oxygenation to vital organs and resulting in cyanosis – a bluish discoloration of the skin due to insufficient oxygen.

The successful operation addressed this critical issue, restoring proper blood flow and oxygenation to the newborn. This case highlights the importance of specialized neonatal care and rapid response in treating rare and serious congenital heart conditions.
