Marmullakaj: The political situation led Kosovo not to receive millions of euros from the EU.

Kosovo’s EU Funding Delayed Due to Political Climate, Researcher Says

Prishtina, Kosovo – According to Qemajl Marmullakaj, a senior researcher with the Institute for Justice of Kosovo’s “Tempus” program, the ongoing political situation has prevented Kosovo from accessing millions of euros in funding from the European Union. Speaking on April 24, 2026, Marmullakaj attributed the delay to a broader challenge facing the region. Marmullakaj noted that several Balkan nations had successfully navigated the EU’s requirements for accessing funds in 2024, including approving necessary documentation and implementing required reforms.

He emphasized that the EU’s criteria for disbursement involve alignment with EU standards and the successful execution of reforms within a country. “The reforms demanded by the EU are that countries align with the EU and their implementation also leads to access to funds,” Marmullakaj explained. He indicated that Kosovo’s inability to fully satisfy these conditions during 2025 resulted in the continued blockage of EU funds.

The researcher’s comments highlight the significant impact of the political climate on Kosovo’s progress toward EU integration and its ability to secure vital financial support.
