Nearly 74 percent of young people are considering emigration, civil society networks and the Youth Forum are alarmed by the lack of perspectives in Kosovo.

Rising Emigration Driven by Lack of Opportunities in Kosovo

A significant portion of Kosovo’s young population is considering emigration as a pathway to improved opportunities, according to recent survey findings. A questionnaire conducted by Telegrafi explored the reasons behind youth emigration, revealing a primary driver: the perceived lack of prospects within the country. The results indicated that 48.89 percent of respondents identified the lack of opportunities as the main factor motivating young people to leave Kosovo.

This suggests a widespread sentiment regarding limited prospects for advancement and development. Furthermore, the survey highlighted a concrete plan for emigration among a considerable segment of the population. Approximately 48.15 percent of respondents stated a definite intention to leave Kosovo, while 25.83 percent expressed uncertainty about their future plans.

These figures collectively represent a substantial 74 percent of respondents who either intend to emigrate or remain undecided. The data underscores a growing trend of emigration fueled by the perceived lack of opportunities for Kosovo’s young people, prompting concerns about the potential impact on the nation’s future workforce and demographic landscape. Further investigation into the specific sectors driving this trend is warranted.
