Free internet in public spaces, Podujeva launches project

Podujevë Launches Free Public WiFi Initiative Supported by EU and GIZ

Citizens of Podujevë now have access to free internet services in designated public spaces, following the launch of a new initiative designed to bolster digital infrastructure. The project, a collaborative effort between the European Union and GIZ, seeks to expand internet access for residents across Kosovo. The Municipality of Podujevë initiated the rollout today, offering residents access to a free WiFi network throughout most public areas.

This allows citizens to connect without incurring any costs for internet service. The broader project anticipates extending the free public WiFi network to 33 municipalities throughout Kosovo. The goal is to significantly improve digital infrastructure and provide increased connectivity opportunities for all citizens.

“This is an achievement,” stated officials involved in the project. The initiative represents a key step in bridging the digital divide and promoting greater access to information and communication resources within the region. Further expansion is planned, contingent on successful implementation in Podujevë.

The project underscores a commitment to modernizing connectivity and supporting digital inclusion within Kosovo.
