Cyrihu Permanently Expands Forensic Nursing Service Following High Demand
Cyrihu, Switzerland – The canton of Cyrihu has formalized a previously pilot program, establishing a permanent and expanded service utilizing “forensic nurses,” following significant demand within the region. The decision reflects a recognized need to address escalating domestic violence concerns. Cyrihu currently reports an average of approximately 22 domestic violence cases daily, a figure significantly higher than the national average for Switzerland, which has been steadily increasing year-on-year.
Data from the GFS research institute indicates that one in five women in Switzerland experiences sexual or domestic violence, however, only half of these victims report the incidents. The forensic nursing service, initially implemented as a temporary measure, has exceeded expectations in supporting victims and assisting in investigations. The service provides crucial medical and psychological support to individuals affected by violence, alongside collaboration with law enforcement.
Officials cite the need for increased resources and expanded capacity to meet the ongoing demand. The canton intends to further develop the service, recognizing the critical role it plays in addressing a persistent and complex issue within Switzerland.
