Alaba “included” in the multi-million euro scam in Tirana – former Real Madrid star revealed as a victim

Criminal Network Targeting European Citizens Dismantled in Tirana

An international investigation, spearheaded by the prosecutor’s office in Salzburg, Austria, and SPAK in Albania, has resulted in the dismantling of a significant criminal network operating from Tirana. The operation targeted European citizens through a sophisticated “call center” scheme, allegedly generating over 50 million euros in fraudulent activity. The network employed deceptive tactics to lure victims, utilizing the images of prominent figures to bolster their credibility.

Notably, the operation exploited the image of football star David Alaba to attract investment interest. Manipulated photos and videos featuring well-known individuals, including Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, ORF presenters Armin Wolf and Nadja Bernhard, were central to the scheme. In one instance, a video purportedly featuring President Van der Bellen promoted the investment, stating, “Don’t waste time, act now.” The fraudulent scheme promised monthly payments of 250,000 euros.

Law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate the full scope of the operation and the individuals involved. The investigation highlights the ongoing challenge of combating financial fraud and the use of celebrity endorsements in deceptive schemes. The operation in Tirana represents a major disruption to this criminal enterprise.
