Kosovo Leaders Commemorate Victims of 1998 Massacre
Prishtina, Kosovo – Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Speaker of Parliament Albulena Haxhiu, who also serves as the Acting President of Kosovo, honored the victims of the 1998 massacre in the villages of Shtuticë, Vërboc, Gllobar, and Baks on the 27th anniversary of the event. The leaders paid tribute by laying fresh flower wreaths at the graves of those who perished. Speaking to the media, Prime Minister Kurti reflected on the significance of the remembrance.
He stated that the blood of the fallen had become “the light of freedom” guiding Kosovo’s path, serving as a constant reminder of the nation’s origins. “After 27 years,” Kurti emphasized, “many Serbian criminals are being arrested or prosecuted in absentia, and there are advancements in uncovering the fate of missing individuals and punishing those responsible for violent disappearances.”
The commemoration comes as part of ongoing efforts to address the legacy of the conflict and ensure justice for victims. Haxhiu’s presence alongside Kurti underscored the government’s commitment to continued investigations and accountability.
