Hoxhaj: Kosovo’s application to the Council of Europe was treated as if North Korea had applied.

Hoxhaj Criticizes European Response to Kosovo’s Council of Europe Application

Prishtina – Former Kosovo Parliament member Enver Hoxhaj has strongly criticized the European Council’s continued rejection of Kosovo’s application for membership, asserting that the situation reflects a deeply concerning pattern of treatment. Speaking on Klan Kosova on February 2nd, 2026, Hoxhaj argued that the prolonged dismissal of the application warrants serious consideration. “It is impossible to view this solely as an external issue,” Hoxhaj stated.

“The level of disregard demonstrated towards Kosovo’s application for membership in the Council of Europe suggests a treatment akin to that afforded to North Korea.” He emphasized that such a response would only be considered appropriate for a nation facing significant international isolation. Hoxhaj attributed this treatment, in part, to a lack of internal seriousness within Kosovo’s institutions. He suggested that the continued delay in the Council of Europe application highlights a critical deficiency within the country’s own governance.

The rejection of Kosovo’s application for the Council remains a contentious issue, with implications for the nation’s path toward European integration. The debate underscores the challenges facing Kosovo as it seeks full membership within the European Council.
