Two American soldiers have gone missing in Morocco, initiating search efforts.

U.S. Africa Command (Africom) announced Saturday that two U.S.

soldiers are currently missing following an incident during military exercises in Morocco. The soldiers were participating in “African Lion 2026,” a joint annual training exercise focused on enhancing operational cooperation between U.S. forces, NATO allies, and partner nations within Africa.

The individuals were reported missing near the Cap Draa Training Area, located in the Tan Tan region of Morocco. The training area is approximately 100 miles southwest of Marrakesh. A comprehensive search and rescue operation is currently underway, involving resources from the United States, Morocco, and other contributing countries.

The effort incorporates ground, air, and sea assets to locate the missing service members. “The incident remains under investigation, and the search continues,” Africom stated in a released statement. “Our primary focus is on the well-being of the service members and supporting their families during this challenging time.”

Africom has not released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the disappearance.
