Social Democratic Leader Attributes Election Fatigue to Lack of Trust
Tirana – Social Democratic Party leader Dardan Molliqaj has addressed concerns regarding citizen participation in elections, asserting that the perception of “election fatigue” is a misinterpretation of the underlying issue. Speaking on the “Përballje Podcast,” Molliqaj argued that the primary challenge stems from a deficit of trust and political engagement, rather than physical exhaustion. Molliqaj clarified that voter turnout is not primarily driven by physical tiredness, but by a broader sense of disillusionment with the current political landscape.
He described what is frequently labeled as election fatigue as a form of political withdrawal among citizens. “People don’t get physically tired… if there is no political inspiration, people say they don’t want to participate,” Molliqaj explained, according to a report by Telegrafi. “This is not fatigue; it’s abstention due to disappointment with political processes.”
The statement reflects a debate surrounding citizen involvement in political elections and highlights the importance of addressing voter sentiment regarding the political system.
Molliqaj’s perspective suggests that a lack of faith in political institutions is a more significant factor than simple voter weariness.
