Vulaj: Kosovo has been close to recognition by Greece

Albanian-American Council Member Details Near-Recognition of Kosovo by Greece

Prishtina, Kosovo – According to Martin Vulaj, President of the Albanian-American Council, Kosovo experienced a period of significant proximity to recognition by Greece several years prior. Speaking on the “Info Magazine” program on May 4th, 2026, Vulaj indicated that the current situation regarding Greek recognition is markedly different. Vulaj stated that a few years ago, discussions surrounding Kosovo’s recognition by Greece were at a particularly advanced stage.

However, he attributed subsequent developments to a shift in the prospects. He noted a decrease in the immediacy of this goal compared to earlier assessments. Vulaj highlighted the evolving geopolitical landscape, specifically referencing the increased influence of the United States.

He observed that the U.S. is actively deploying its power across multiple sectors – political, military, economic, and energy – and that this exertion of influence has impacted the trajectory of Kosovo’s international relations. “We are currently somewhat further away from this goal than we were earlier,” Vulaj concluded, emphasizing the ongoing complexities surrounding Kosovo’s path to full recognition.

The situation remains fluid, with the US role being a key factor.
