North Macedonia to Reintroduce Teacher Presence in Schools
Skopje, North Macedonia – The Ministry of Education and Science in North Macedonia has announced a revised policy regarding student safety within schools. Education Minister Vesna Janevska stated that teachers will now assume a supervisory duty in hallways and courtyards during both long and short breaks. The Ministry has issued a directive to all schools and municipalities, requesting the reinstatement of a practice previously in place.
This involves having teachers actively present and overseeing student activity rather than relying solely on student monitors. Minister Janevska explained that this shift is intended to bolster efforts against peer-to-peer violence. She emphasized the need for comprehensive support to address this issue effectively.
The move follows a communication sent to all educational institutions, outlining the Ministry’s intention to prioritize student safety through increased adult supervision. Details regarding the implementation of this policy are currently being finalized in collaboration with local authorities. The Ministry’s goal is to create a more secure environment for students by ensuring teachers are readily available to intervene and maintain order during school breaks.
