Former Russian General Stanislav Petrov Dies
Moscow – General Stanislav Petrov, a highly distinguished figure in the Russian military and a key founder of modern defense forces, died on April 2nd at his Moscow residence. He was 87 years old. Petrov was found in his apartment within the Embankment building by family members shortly before dawn.
Law enforcement officials confirmed the incident, stating that a pistol was located near his body. The general was discovered seated in a chair in the kitchen. Medical sources indicated that Petrov had been experiencing a serious illness recently.
Details regarding the nature of his illness have not been disclosed. Petrov is best known for his role as commander of Russia’s Radiation, Chemical, and Biological (RCBD) Forces.
