LSDM Criticizes Ministry of Justice Over Gruevski Extradition Delay
The Liberal Democratic Party of Macedonia (LDSM) has expressed strong concern regarding the ongoing extradition proceedings for former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, demanding a definitive response from the Ministry of Justice. The party is questioning the pace of the process and the lack of clarity surrounding the submission of extradition documents. Secretary General Aleksandar Sasha Dimitrijevic stated that the Ministry’s assertion of an “institutionally conducted” process, free from political influence, is insufficient.
He emphasized the central unanswered question: whether the necessary documents have been dispatched for extradition. Instead of a direct answer, Dimitrijevic reported receiving only “bureaucratic phrases” indicating ongoing completion of the documentation. LDSM is now pressing for an explanation regarding the month-long delay.
The party is investigating whether the delay stems from a lack of capacity or a deliberate tactic. They point to a contrasting example, noting that Poland completed the extradition process within a single day. The core issue remains the status of the documents pertaining to Gruevski and the Ministry of Justice’s handling of the extradition request.
The party seeks a transparent explanation regarding the timeline and the current status of the submitted materials.
