Human Remains Found in Mitrovica, Linked to Disappearances During the 1998-1999 Conflict

Mitrovica, Kosovo – Remains believed to be those of at least two people missing during the 1998-1999 conflict have been discovered in Mitrovica. The individuals were previously listed on the national register of forcibly disappeared persons from that period. A 24-hour police operation, initiated at the direction of the court, took place on Monday, involving excavation and exhumation at the site.

Following the completion of the procedures, bone fragments recovered from the scene were submitted for medical examination. The primary focus of the subsequent analysis will be to confirm the identity of the remains through DNA testing. Authorities are proceeding with this process to ascertain the individuals’ identities and provide closure to families.
