Dodik announces the declaration of the Republic of Serbia’s independence

RS Leader Threatens Independence Action Over Proposed Law

Banja Luka – Republika Srpska (RS) leader Milorad Dodik reiterated his intention to declare the entity’s independence if High Representative Christian Schmidt proceeds with a law concerning state property. Speaking in Banja Luka, Dodik stated that a declaration of independence would be immediate upon Schmidt’s decision. “If Schmidt decides on the law on state property, at the moment the decision for the independence of RS will be made,” Dodik announced.

He has previously stated a similar commitment. Dodik further demanded the annulment of all decisions made by Schmidt during his tenure. He asserted that the RS will not tolerate what he perceives as interference in its affairs.

“We will not allow anyone to deal with us in this way,” Dodik stated. “The Schmidt decisions must be annulled. Once that is finished, the Serbian Republic is ready for talks and agreements in Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

The statement comes amid ongoing tensions surrounding Schmidt’s authority and the proposed legislation.

The potential declaration of independence remains a central point of contention, with Dodik repeatedly linking Schmidt’s actions to his stated intentions. Schmidt has previously criticized Dodik’s rhetoric and defended his role in maintaining stability within Bosnia and Herzegovina.
