Mickoski Urges Patience Amid Student Protests, Promises Solution to Exam Request
Skopje – Prime Minister Hristjan Mickoski has responded to student warnings regarding planned protests scheduled for May 18th. Addressing the public, Mickoski emphasized the need for patience as the government actively works towards a resolution concerning the request for the jurisprudence exam to be administered in Albanian. “This is an issue for which we as a government are working,” Mickoski stated.
“I am convinced that very soon we will come up with a solution proposal.” He affirmed that the proposed solution will align with recommendations from the Venice Commission and adhere to international standards. Mickoski urged all parties involved in the process to exercise patience, suggesting that certain political forces within the country are deliberately seeking to instigate conflict and unrest. He indicated that these forces have previously attempted to disrupt progress and reform efforts.
The Prime Minister’s comments follow repeated calls from student organizations demanding the exam be offered in Albanian, a key demand intended to address concerns about equal access to education. He stated that a concrete proposal is anticipated “soon.” The government continues to engage with student representatives to find a mutually acceptable outcome.
